Event: Practice Perfect’s 2017 ASHA Convention in LA Recap

Last week, Practice Perfect setup shop at the 2017 ASHA convention. Attracting more that 15,000 attendees from across North America, ASHA is the largest conference of its kind, playing host to speech language pathologists, audiologists, students, educators, and many of the vendors that they rely upon to get the job done. Being one of those vendors, Practice Perfect opted to be one of the sponsors of ASHA 2017.

The team touched down at LAX on Wednesday afternoon. In Toronto, the temperatures had just taken a sharp nosedive, so it was a relief to step out of the airport and into the sun. The conference wasn’t scheduled to begin until Thursday morning, but there was still a fair amount of setup to do when we arrived at the conference hall.

Thursday is when all of the fun began. Over the course of the next few days, thousands of therapists would be attending educational sessions on topics ranging from how to enhance graduate student engagement to feeding medically complex children with craniofacial diagnoses. ASHA assures that there’s something on the agenda for everyone, regardless of their area of interest.

When the attendees weren’t in sessions, they were free to explore the exhibit hall, meet the various vendors, and learn more about they had to offer. Even when they were in sessions, there always seemed to be some sort of activity in the the exhibit hall. There was seldom a moment where our booth wasn’t being visited by either current clients or curious private practice SLPs. One of the greatest parts about the ASHA conference is all of the free goodies that the exhibitors are giving away. For the past few years, we’ve made a habit of handing out 2-year desktop calendars. And of course, many people stopped by our booth just to snag a calendar!

Being that we were in LA and the weather was phenomenal, the team stayed busy outside of exhibiting hours, too. Whether we were strolling through the newly revived Downtown LA, enjoying a lovely Italian dinner in Santa Monica, or getting in touch with our inner child at Disneyland, we definitely made the most of our time in the City of Angels.
